Retina Associates of Greater Philadelphia, LTD (“RAGP” or “the Practice”), based in North Wales, PA and King of Prussia, PA, is a patient-centric ophthalmology practice specializing in medical and surgical diseases of the retina and vitreous. Dr. Jonathan Belmont founded RAGP in 1989 with the opening of the Lansdale office and quickly opened a satellite office in Norristown soon after Dr. Robert Kleiner joined the practice in 1989. Dr. Kleiner became a partner with Dr. Belmont and together they have established a reputable brand in the Philadelphia ophthalmological industry with multiple decades of success.
Situation
After over 30 years of market leadership, Dr. Belmont and Dr. Kleiner decided to find a strategic partner who could help accelerate growth through additional expertise and resources.
Solution
RAGP selected and engaged Griffin as its exclusive investment banker to solicit interest from potential partners. Griffin worked with the Practice to identify and approach a targeted group of financial and strategic partners. Griffin managed a competitive process that generated multiple proposals; RAGP ultimately chose to partner with ReFocus Eye Health, a leading management services organization supporting more than 75 affiliated ophthalmologists and optometrists across 34 practice locations spanning five states. ReFocus Eye Health is backed by Zenyth Partners, a private equity firm based in New York, NY with extensive middle-market health care services expertise.
